Time Flies Regardless

from Head in the Sand by Muddy Suzuki

lyrics

I saw her at the coach station. Her hair was dyed bright red.
She bridged the distance between us with a few choice words she said.

I was on my guard. You have to be round here,
but next thing I knew, my reservation disappeared.

She was traveling with her brother but she sat down next to me.
She pinned me down with her smile. I didn't struggle to break free.

As we rode the miles it felt like I had lost my grasp.
Never had I known infatuation move so fast.
I wasn't sure if my thoughts were so pure anymore, now lust was racing.
I'm only hoping that she isn't joking around. How bracing!

Her words intoxicating as moonshine, my own replies became absurd.
She had a jewelled superior canine and the sweetest laught I'd heard.

As we rode the miles it felt like I had lost my grasp.
Never had I known infatuation move so fast.
I wasn't sure if my thoughts were so pure anymore, now lust was racing.
I'm only hoping that she isn't joking around. How bracing!

She made me feel so damned alive from inside.
(Or is it just an excuse to be fey?)
So playful. Childlike wonderment.
I was sent whirling around from my head to my legs.
No brake pads on this vehicle. Don't care if we crash. Such a way to go.
Make a total hash of everything, I know.

Although we said we'd meet again, I knew then:
here is one who's going to get away.
One more thing just too good to last. Dang and blast!
Wishing isn't harmless. Though we try our hardest, time flies by regardless
whether you have fun or you don't.

Though we try our hardest, time flies by regardless
whether you have fun or you don't.

And so we went our separate ways. I never saw her again.
But though she is far away, the very least I can say is
that was a beautiful day.
